Educator / Consultant
I am Vicky Allen, educator, teacher-trainer, presenter and author and in the mid 70’s, I earned a Master’s in Deaf Education from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.
Since then, my teaching experience has been varied. I have taught deaf students at the high school level in schools for the deaf both in Oregon and Florida, mainstreamed programs in Texas and Nevada and even rural areas for the government of Manitoba.
During my time in Nevada, I also taught ASL to hearing adults at the community college level and developed a graduate level ASL course for the University of Nevada for teachers of hearing students. Personally, I began using ASL with my own hearing toddlers and those of friends as a way of promoting early communication and understanding.
In the early part of 2009, when I changed to the field of teaching EFL/ESL, the world opened up for me. I was offered a contract to teach EFL in a middle eastern college and, because of this, other great opportunities arose. Since then, I have taught EFL not only in the USA and the UAE but, also, in Lithuania, Nepal, and Ecuador. For the past 8 years, I have had the privilege of presenting ASL for ESL as an aide in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language, along with Extensive Learning, at conferences and in workshops, in different parts of the world. It has been quite an adventure!
